Stop the closure of The Island House
The council intends to demolish the local landmark pub "The Island House" in the name of progress... The pub has stood at the entrance to Llanelli for many, many years and now the decision to remove it from the landscape has been made, by compulsory purchase order if necessary so that the Eastern gateway regeneration scheme for the public of Llanelli can get under way.

How many more old landmarks will be removed in the name of progress? The town has become a monument to the glass and concrete manufacturers, soon it will be devoid of any old landmarks and buildings. This is marketed as progress and regeneration, the old town is now but a memory that will only be remembered on cellulloid and via the albums kept by our forefathers.

Llanelli Town centre now has pubs where the art of conversation is a thing of the past... Is it so easy to wipe out memories like this? Ex Llanelli residents from around the world are dismayed at the decision by the council to demolish this building and wipe it from the Llanelli landscape.

The pub is now under new management who are continuing the petition to keep the pub open.
